SECURITY SYSTEMS OVERVIEW
Systems is the name of the team of Security staff dedicated
to managing the University of New South Wales electronic security
systems.
This is a big task and includes:
- installing new security
systems as requested by the various university Tenants, Faculties,
Divisions and Buisiness Units;
- maintaining those systems already
installed;
- upgrading UNSW security systems infrastructure,
- investigating new
security technologies and
- liaising with many people to ensure what
we have is appropriate for the university needs.
Systems managed,
maintained and installed include:
|
|
- Access Control Systems -
Card Readers (Magnetic Stripe, Proximity and SmartCard), Bioreaders
(Hand, Finger, Iris etc), Boomgates and Cablegates to name
a few. This also includes ID Cards, in combination with the E-Spot.
- Alarm Systems -
Intruder Alarms, Duress Alarms, Equipment Alarms (PC's, Printers,
Servers), Building Systems Alarms (Fire Sensors, Freezers,
Heaters, Airconditioners).
- CCTV/DVR -
Closed Circuit TV (CCTV) and DVR (Digital Video Recording),
including linking these systems to Alarm Systems, Access Control
and Help Points.
- Help Points -
Specialised units that are placed in key locations around UNSW
campuses and in some buildings. These units combine elements
of all the above. Upon activation they Activate an Alarm System,
alert an Access Control Alarm and Activate a monitored camera
and intercom.
- Keysafes & Laptop
Safes - Specialised units that allow complete
control over who gains access to keys, laptops, mobiles
and other valuables. These units not only incorporate an
alarm system, they will not open or even release an item
without a individual PIN code.
- Public Cameras -
Theses cameras have been installed by Security and Facilities
Management to make life easier. They can be viewed on the
web and include views of the E-Spot, Anzac Parade Bus Stops
and High Street Bus stop so you can see how busy these areas
are, BEFORE going.
|
Systems also manages the Security Website (this one). The Security
Web Site is the responsibility of the Security Projects Officer.
All access
control, alarm systems, CCTV/DVR, and Help Points are monitored
by the UNSW Security Control Centre for a minimal charge per year.
Any
of the above items (and others) can be installed by submitting
an RWS
(Requsition for Works and Services) or a review of your
area can be organised by submitting a Systems
Review RWS.
Please note these must be authorised by a senior
member of your Faculty, School, Division or Unit.
